Kelly and Jin’s engagement session landed in that sweet spot between morning and afternoon, when the city is fully awake, the light is strong but still kind, and autumn is doing exactly what it’s supposed to do.
We met at the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool in Lincoln Park on a beautiful fall day, with sunshine pouring in and the skyline making its quiet appearances in the background. It’s one of my favorite locations for a reason: it feels grounded and calm, but still very much Chicago. Nature, structure, and city life all sharing the same space.
What stood out most about this session was how easy it felt. No rushing. No forcing moments. Kelly and Jin moved through the space together naturally, checking in with each other, laughing, pausing when something caught their attention. The kind of connection that doesn’t need instructions.
Midday sessions often get overlooked, but this one was proof that good light is about more than the clock. The sun showed up in the best way, the colors were rich without being loud, and everything felt open and relaxed. We took our time, followed what felt right, and let the session unfold without overthinking it.
This is the kind of work I love most, present, unforced, and rooted in how people actually are together. Polished without being stiff. Real without being messy. Just honest moments, held gently.
