Florida sunshine and blue skies welcomed everyone unfiltered and unapologetic. Getting ready at the Fenway set the scene for the energy of the day, old glamour Florida meets luxury jazz age hotel. the grand façade, the manicured grounds, the eclectic bespoke décor, it’s historic charm that doesn’t take itself too seriously. like it’s elegant but it has a pulse.
We transitioned over to Hammock Park where 90 acres of vast lush and moody layered light filtered through massive oak canopies draped in Spanish moss and cypress trees created a cathedral ceiling giving us the perfect backdrop for a stunning first look and portrait spot. From the gorgeous greens we wandered a few hundred feet to the sweetest ceremony spot. Andrew Memorial Chapel holds secrets within its bones. Built entirely from florida heart of pine, hand carved from the ceiling beams down to the pews, it is the kind of space that does something to a person the moment they step inside. voices lower. shoulders drop. something settles. there is no competing with a space like this. as a photographer you don’t try to. you get quiet. you pay attention. you let the room do what it’s been doing for over a hundred years. and then they walked out the front doors and into the light, and somewhere on that cobblestone path, their names got added to it. a brick. permanent. part of the foundation now, the same way this day is part of them.
Cocktail hour back at Fenway on the terrace felt like true old Floridian nostalgia. tall palms. the gulf stretching out beyond the lawn. that particular kind of late afternoon light that bounces off water and makes everyone look like they belong in a film. guests spilling out onto the terrace, drinks in hand, the whole scene unhurried and golden.
Reception unfolded on the front lawn as the waterfront settled into evening behind them. Their first dance was choreographed and every second of it was intentional, two people who put thought into that moment and it showed. and then the moms. an honorary dance for both of them that felt like the whole room exhaled at once.
Some weddings you photograph. Some weddings you just try to keep up with because they’re already perfect and your only job is to not miss it.
